Stellenbosch sits on South Africa's oldest wine route, and its historic centre is small enough to explore on foot. Oak trees line the streets, and Cape Dutch architecture is everywhere you look.
Between tastings there's a strong arts scene to poke around in, with contemporary galleries, sculpture gardens and regular exhibitions. The café and restaurant culture is lively too.
From Strand it's easy to make this a half day or a full one. Book a few tastings and a long lunch, or skip the plan and just wander the old town.
